A custom, standalone drive-through wheel wash system designed specifically for Creamfields.

Creamfields, one of the UK’s largest music festivals, encountered a significant safety issue caused by vehicles leaving the festival site. The event is near a busy dual carriageway leading into Warrington, which sees high traffic volumes, including cars and HGVs. Vehicles exiting the site became covered in mud and then transferred to the public road.

This posed multiple safety risks, especially for motorcyclists, as mud on the road can cause skidding, accidents, and damage to vehicles, such as cracked windscreens from loose stones. Additionally, the mud created traffic delays, further increasing the potential for accidents. Creamfields needed a reliable solution to keep the roads as safe as possible for the public, especially given the high traffic volume during the event.

What the client wanted

Wheel Wash provided a custom drive-through wheel wash system specifically for Creamfields’ requirements. Since the site had no power supply available in the wash area, the solution had to be completely standalone. Additionally, it needed to handle a high volume of traffic, with approximately 300 vehicles passing through each day. The primary users of this system were staff and delivery vehicles involved in setting up and dismantling the event. It was not intended for public vehicles but instead for those delivering materials, such as stage equipment.

The custom system was designed to be self-sufficient, requiring no staff to operate. Drivers simply drove their vehicles through the wash, which took 10-20 seconds to clean the wheels. This meant there was no impact on traffic flow as vehicles exited the site. The system was placed at the site’s exit to ensure that all vehicles leaving the event were cleaned before entering the public road. Maintenance was minimal and easily managed by Creamfields staff.

Seeing results:

The wheel wash system successfully met Creamfields’ safety objectives by preventing mud from reaching the dual carriageway. This significantly reduced the risk of accidents and other issues caused by mud on the road. Creamfields decided to purchase the system outright, ensuring they can use it in future years. After the event, the system was stored on-site, ready for the next festival.
